Title of the Book: My Fight, Your Fight Author: Ronda Rousey # of Pages: 580 Star Rating: 4 Stars Review:
By now you have heard of Ronda Rousey. How could you not of? She is the first womens UFC champion in history and the longest raining one, and on a sociable stand point she has the most Instagram followers of any UFC fighter (7.8 million). This is an incredible women who has done so much tremendous things and in here auto biographies "My Fight, Your Fight", you get to read about her life and what she had to go through and endure to become such an icon in not just womens MMA but the entire sport. The book goes through the life of Ronda Rousey starting from when she was born till 2015. In the book she talks about her rise to the UFC as well as her previous Judo experience which also involved getting bronze in the Olympics. Throughout the book you get to see what Ronda had to go through and endure to become the women that she is today and it wasn't always pretty. Living dollar to dollar for the first part of her adulthood and being neglected by her peers and coaches isn't even the worst of it. It is really enticing to see what Ronda had to overcome to be the successful person that she is. What makes this book unique is that their isn't a story like Ronda's. Nobody has had to overcome more doubt and low times than she has. Ronda shouldn't even be alive from birth and yet she overcame many disabilities that man people thought would not allow her to live a normal life to become a champion. She also was never even supposed to be in the UFC. The president of the UFC, Dana White, once said that no women would ever fight in the UFC. But Ronda was able to change his mind and pave the way for all women to have a successful career in the mixed martial arts industry. Throughout the book the tone that Ronda carries is a very serious and almost inspiring one. She makes people believe through her tone and language that they can achieve their dreams no matter the obstacles. She empowers everyone with the same strength that she feels. One part of the book that really stuck out to me was when she was first born. Ronda was almost killed during birth and at age 4 she wasn't able to speak at all. She could only make noises and I find this very extraordinary because she uses this as a platform that she was able to overcome the obstacle, win the fight, of disabilities and was able to make history and become one of the best fighters of all time. Another moment that really struck me was the first time Ronda competed in the Olympic games. I really liked this part of the book because Ronda did not do well in her first Olympic games, she lost every match that she had. This did not stop her from trying however and made her more determined to go and be a winner. It could have broke her and made her want to quit athletic competition but she used it as a motivator and ended up going again in 4 years to win bronze. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys UFC or MMA, does any kind of athletics or sprots, and to any women. Ronda in the book inspires both men and women but I think that women in this time and age are sometimes not given enough credit for the athletic ability and in this book Ronda really shows that women are just as capable of doing the great things that men are. Overall, I think that this is a really good book and if your are into sports or just want a good read to kill time your should definatley pick up "My Fight, Your Fight" by Ronda Rousey.
I would love to read this book based on your recommendation. I am an athlete that has fought adversity before and I think that I could find a lot of myself in this book. Nice job!
