 Review:

How far into disaster would you be willing to climb in order to reach your dream? In Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, you get to climb along with the narrator (Jon) and his teammates who have set out to reach the top of Mount Everest. Jon will jump around telling you the history of the mountain being climbed, as well as his own personal account of what happened in 1996 when a devastating disaster struck the mountain and took countless lives with it. As you read this book, you might have to pause throughout and catch your breath with each next chapter, as the air gets thinner and thinner the higher you climb. Your oxygen is already running out!

Into Thin Air really walks the reader through what it takes to even begin climbing the mountain. A lot of training and taking one’s time on the mountain is essential to each climber’s success, as well as listening to one’s guide to get everyone up and back down the mountain. The high altitude and lack of oxygen are two of the most crucial factors to pay attention to wherever people are on the mountain. Surprisingly enough, reaching the summit is the easier part of the journey compared to the total disaster that could strike at any given moment as someone is fighting to get back down Mount Everest.

This book taught me that people will fight to do the impossible in hopes of reaching their dreams. If you have always wondered what it might be like to climb the tallest mountain in the world, reading Into Thin Air, is a start on that journey of a lifetime. Sometimes in life the problem we are trying to overcome will actually end up overcoming us or even the people around us, however; if we are to live up to our full potential and take a stab at making our dreams come true, we are going to have to climb our mountains. We are all climbing our own mountain in life whether that is physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually. I hope that if you read Into Thin Air, you can discover what is worth climbing for, whether you fully enjoy reading this book or not. I know I learned a lot from this book even though I would not read it again!

  1. Your hook was great and it got me thinking. You did a great job of providing an overview of the book and what the reader would expect when they read the book. You even add a personal touch to the review in your last statement.
